I've done that before too. It usually depends on how bad it's bleeding. If it's really not too bad, I put some flour or baby powder on it...but usually it's bleeding really bad, so I remove it alltogether. Neither one of us seems to be phased by it much anymore.

I remember being scared to death the first time he broke one. And, actually, if I remember it correctly, it was some of the experts on this board that talked me out of taking him to the emergency vet (who was NOT an Avian vet and didn't know what he could do for him). I was told to put powder or flour on it and take him in the morning to my vet. I stayed up ALL NIGHT making sure he didn't die!! My vet told me it was a good thing that I had friends I could turn to on this board b/c I did the right thing by patching it up and waiting for someone who knew what they were doing.

I'm lucky that the only local emergency vet is actually one that knows a lot about birds. I've called them in the past to suss them out just in case something like this ever happened, and they know their stuff. I'm going to miss them when I move! And yeah, if it had just been one feather I would have just waited...but with so many I freaked.

Chen is completely recovered, by the way. They both woke me up at 6 this morning even though they go to bed at 10 - neither of them have experienced an summer before and I think they've decided early sunrises mean more playtime!

No, I'm Australian. The quote in my signature is from Mozart's 'The Magic Flute', from the birdcatcher's aria - it translates (forgive me if you're German and can recognise how dodgy my translating is) as something like

'I can be joyful and happy always
Because all the birds are mine!'

I'm a classical opera student, and both my birds whistle the opening to the Queen of the Night aria from the same opera, so I thought it kind of fitted.
