Moths!!! Heelp!!!!

Even though I keep my cages clean and store my seed supply outdoors, I'm being overrun with moths!! I've stopped using cob as a cage bottom substrate and started using newspaper, but they seem to be getting worse! Anybody have any tips as to what I can do to overcome these pests? HELP!!!

Get moth traps... Put them where the moths most frequent... If your birds are out to play during the day, put the moth traps in small cages and hang them up!

When you buy seed, store it in the freezer for a good 24-48 hours before storing else-where. Go through your kitchen cabinets and look for any food that may have been gotten into (even boxes and containers with lids!) and toss out anything that might have been destroyed. Make sure that ANY type of food is put into an air-tight container or in the fridge/freezer. After that's all done, vacuum everything up that you can.... Move things around, open dressers, just about everything that may have tight places or whatnot, move it and vacuum it!

Moths can be hard to get rid of, and sure enough easy to get! If you have a moth infestation (as I once had), cleaning the cages alone wont help... You'll have to clean the entire room (including vacuuming everything that you may have never vacuumed before!), clean rooms that may be dark (even closets) and go through your kitchen cabinet and clean!

Besides using a moth trap at night, you can leave out a large pan filled with an inch of water at night... If they land in this they most likely wont be able to get out...

A dish of water put out at night works well, if you put a light near it they are attracted to the light and land in the water...this works in a pinch, moth traps are better.

I think you are in Oz, right? We were also recently overrun with moths. I hate killing ANYTHING and started trying to transport each little moth outside in a jar. it got so out of control that i did start squishing them (ick!) We were vigilant with getting each and everyone and thoroughly cleaning the cupboards to make sure they eggs/worm stuff wasn't in any boxes etc. it was a tedious process. But, we are now moth free.

they do sell sticky moth traps at woolies and coles as well. they supposedly have phermemones to attract them.
good luck!
