my baby has scaly face mites help needed

My budgie Sky was showing a flaky cere and beak so I took him to the vet and he has the scaly face mites. He had to have a shot and the vet also treated my other budgie even though he's not showing signs. I'm so upset Sky is 6 months old the vet said he could have been carrying them this whole time and just started to show symptoms. I have a couple of questions though if anyone knows he told me to get rid of anything pourous in the cage. So I'm thinking that would include perches right or is there any way to disenfect them. I was thinking maybe a grapefruit seed extract solution. I was also wondering about rawhide type toys if they have a way to be cleaned. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Clean as much as you can in the dishwasher, if you have one...

Otherwise, boil as many toys, perches, and dishes that you safely can, and scrub much of the rest with 50/50 vinegar and water...

There's several other posts about scaley face mites you might want to look into...

It is a good idea to treat both just in case, as well as your tiel if she's anywhere near the budgies...

yeah the other budgie got treated. But he said since the cockatiels don't actually come in contact really with the budgies they should be ok but to keep an eye out on them.

I'm wondering now if I should get some mite spray and spray down the cages and then rinse it off just incase there are any still in the cages.

Not sure how effective the mite spray is.... but putting it through a boiling bath, or even through a bleach bath then rinse and clean with hot water should help...

I ended up talking to the vet and he said don't bother with the mite spray. I soaked everything down with gse solution he said that should work. and then I steam cleaned.
