Beak Appetite

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone uses or has used Beak Appetite. I was so delighted to see it in my petstore because it looked so good, I thought my birds would enjoy it, and its an American product.

So, well I bought some stuff... And the little Bums won't eat it LOL.... The tiels will eat rice out of a bowl, but not the variety of different grains, ecteetctect....

Stubborn fids!

What are your experiences with it?

I tried two different types of the B A meals, because I was thrilled to see it being sold in a pet store near me, too.
But my eclectus and my meyers (see avatar) BOTH refused to eat it!

They both prefer Crazy Corn brand bird meals.
It's a little more expensive compared to Beak Appetite
(not much though)
and I have to buy it on line because I've never seen it in
any pet store anywhere.

Also I had been informed by both my daughters that while I was
cooking the Beak Appetite brand food(s), it "smells awful!".
And I have to admit, it didn't smell NEARLY as yummy as
Crazy Corn does.

My birds love it. My secret to getting them to eat it was pretending it was mine. They will eat it out of a bowl with a spoon in it but not in their cage dishes.

My macaw is a Crazy Corn girl too. We've tried the B A and she is a little finicky about it - and I have tried all varieties. But I thnk the CC is a little chunkier and that is more appealing to the big ones IMO.

Thanks to those who responded.
I think a big party of the fids not wanting to test the mixture is the fact that its very moist. I just cooked the whole package and defrost it, when I attempt to get them to eat it. And I'll be honest, those raisons are sooo nasty after being microwaved LOL.

My one lil seed eater tiel Jake, however did take a little nibble of the mixture. But it was just a test, and he didn't go for more LOL.

Steven

Now I just have to waight for Crazy Corn products to show up in my local Petstore lol

You know Char- I think you hit on something there...

The larger birds do seem to go for the more chunky, textured
foods, with distinct shapes and sizes to it.
The B A is too "blended", looks almost like a coarse
gravel when cooked...
I think that played a big part in the reasons my birds wouldn't eat it.
Yet with the CC you can still tell what's in there because you
can see the seeds, rolled oats, the sprouts, etc.

I essentially make up my own dried mixes. I think that both Beak Appetit and Crazy Corn are expensive when you're feeding 10 birds. Buy them once, and then make up your own versions.
