Horrible!!!
After seeing these pics I won't sleep tonight. I am praying this is nothing but some kind of slander against NEEBS and none of it is true. But I doubt it. I can't believe I supported this rescues. I sent her money and bought things in her auctions. I am just sick about this!
Warning the pictures are bad. http://mysite.verizon.net/resoj0ns/neebs2.html |

I wrote to the email address at the top of the page and this was the reply I recieved. Seems like a mass letter writing campaign is needed
Thank you for writing. I am sending you a copy of what I am sending everyone who writes us. Please realize we are swamped with emails and we hope this will answer some of your questions. Please read the site thoroughly - you can use the links at the top of the page. Yes the photos are real. Please realize we cannot - CANNOT legally say more than the website will tell you. Please also realize that the birds are STILL IN HER CARE. Representatives of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - MSPCA - have inspected this facility and find the conditions acceptable for continued operation. The Health Department thinks otherwise. Without the MSPCA getting involved - the birds will continue to languish. PLEASE - contact the MSPCA and voice your concern. All this information is on the website that we can give, including a copy of the Heath Departments case. Thank you for your help and concern. If you have further questions, feel free to email and we will get back as soon as possible. Spread the word - we CAN make a difference ! |

Those poor little birds! I hope someone can get them out of there and into good homes and get them some vet care.

I can find a website for the MSPCA, but I cannot find an email address. Am I overlooking the obvious? If someone has their email address, would you please post it?
Is anyone (everyone??) cross-posting this to other bird sites? A/P |

Lyn:
Now perhaps you understand why I detest MOST rescues. Even good ones get in over their heads real fast. Before you know it, what you find is a collection of birds that are simply hoarded, never properly veted and rarely released to good homes. Its very unfortunate, for I'm sure that it all started out with good intention, but this is often the end result. People get very angry with me when I say negative things about rescues. I feel this way: place one bird at a time. Don't take in every bird that comes along. And when I do bring one here, its always with a prospective owner in mind. I won't keep a bird here for more than one month or they bond too strongly to me anyway. If every bird lover would either adopt one bird or properly place one, the rescues wouldn't be necessary in the first place. The other problem is this: if and when they do get shut down, these birds will likely be unadoptable for most homes. These birds will have spent so much time in bad conditions that they'll have psychotic issues or wind up as breeders, thereby creating even more birds. If you stop sending unwanted birds to these places and cut off their donations, they will sooner or later be forced shut down. You have to remove the incentive. I'm used to being unpopular, so let me have it with both barrels. I'm a big girl, I can take it. Won't make any difference, I've seen WAY TOO much abuse in rescues, both dog and bird. THE OUTLAW

Thank you, Nancy!!!
I, too, have rescued for many, many years (though not much recently). They come in, they go to the vet, they get placed. I wish I had a $5 bill for every lashing I've taken from people who believe I am being "cruel" to the bird to rehome it. "Cruel?" Look at the birds and conditions in those pictures and tell me what is "cruel." I completely concur with you regarding "rescues" and "sanctuaries." They have become nothing more than pretty words used for collectors and hoarders. How many birds do each of you take care of on a daily basis? And, by "take care of," I mean not just feed/water/clean cage, but consistent interaction, etc.? Although many of you probably half-kill yourselves in your (commendable) commitment to you birds, when did you first notice how many is too many?? We ought to do a bit of a poll with that question. I've found just one email address so far on the MSPCA site and it is: MRock@mspca.org. This is for their program coordinator, Meagan Rock. But I'll write to every email address I find on their site! Nancy, rescues
Yesterday we went to a bird show and saw a greenwing with a sign on his cage "pet with and attitude", the bird was a seven year old greenwing. The crippled man who was selling the bird had got it from a family with children and they had to rehome it. I looked at this mans card and it said rescue, he is a far cry from the one pictured up above. This man told us he has taken in many birds and has found good homes for them, I believe him. While at the show several people were interested in his birds but they guy was picky on who he thought would be a good home, that is a trait I like because I feel every bird needs a good home. to make a long story short my wife picked up the 7 year old greenwing and it was love at first site. "Odie" took to my wife like he had been with her for years. We don't need another bird but if one reaches out and chooses like this one, you have to give in. Today we will go back to the show and see Odie, I'm sure the vendor will sell to nobody else before we get there.
The point here is that there are good rescues and bad. We need to tout the good and punsish the bad. Unfortunately there are situations where people have to give up their birds, lets hope that on of us can steer these people to another home before the birds go to a rescue. Gary |
