Recently, a pair of 20-something-ish wild-caught (they have their quarantine bands) bonded male Moluccans came into the bird store I visit daily. They haven't been handled in years. One of the staff took one of them out of the cage so that he could get some exercise (only one perch without somebird already on it). Wrapped him in a towel, and gently placed him on a stand. I love M2s more than anything, and after a few minutes of talking and singing to him, he came over and gently felt my hand with his tongue (lotsa little tears from Arthur's toenails). He let me pet his head, his body, his feet, and even under his wings. He came over and laid his head on my chest and let me scritch under his crest. He was such a gentle bird! Even when he felt that he'd had enough for one day, he didn't bite--simply took the top of his beak and gently shoved my hand away.
I hope this bodes well for his and his friend's future. They're both beautiful birds, and if they stay as gentle as this one was today, even though they're basically wild, I'm hoping they'll find a good, loving home (preferably together, as they're pretty bonded to each other). If only I had more room, more money, and a great big aviary, I'd bring them home, myself :-).
Getting to socialize with that beautiful bird made my day!
