Unhappy help with baby tiel

I have a baby tiel that is 7 weeks old. He was doing great until today. The lady that i bought him from told me how to wean him and when to do it and i have been doing as she instructed. But today he got really weak all of the sudden. He won't eat the seeds or pellets that i put in his cage and he won't drink water on his own. I am having a really really hard time with trying to wean him can anyone please help me I don't know what to do.

He probably needs to see the vet. I would not wean a cockatiel at 7 weeks. I would not wean them till 8 to 12 weeks. Babies wean themselves if you give them time.

Is this the only bird you have? It helps a lot if he can see other birds eating. I realize you have to quarantine him but if he could watch from a distance?

I had my birds vet checked and cleared when I added my two Princess Parrots. I handfed Manikay, once I was able to put him with the other birds, he learned to eat in no time!

Birds do get nervous when they move from one house to another, could take a couple days to start eating so keep hand feeding him and check his weight daily. He should be between 90-105 grams at that age.

Contact your vet as well as the breeder. He will need to have food, in the form of handfeeding formula. Weaning is a stressful time for the little ones, let alone moving into a new home and they can revert very quickly and can also go downhill very quickly. If you haven't already, get your handfeeding supplies ready and keep the chick warm.

help with baby Tiel

The hand feeder gets more stressed than the bird especially when you are not sure of what to do.
At this point, seek a vet's care and input. The baby may be dehydrated and would need fluids administered by injection. This is a crucial time and go now!

Hello Happy Trails .........So I assume you have been handfeeding fine up until now? How long have you yourself had the baby? How many cc's/ml's have you been getting into him/her lately? Were are you located? Can you provide pics of cage and bird?....Are you putting food and water on bottom of cage where it can be seen easily? Teacher birds do help quicken the learning process, so like Tara said, you can also do that if ya have other birds nearby? Quarantine procedures are best though for safety of others.....Once he perks up, after getting formula passing again, then I would add unsalted crackers & spray millet and mixed veggies (I use a frozen mix), a slice of corn on cob and even some scrambled egg (but toss after about an hr.).......Like Alice said, if it has been quite awhile since he ate or drank, he could already be dehydrated - so if ya can easily get that formula into him, loosen it up some (feed carefully though) and if it does not pass then it will have to be removed by someone qualified and Sub-Q injections of electrolytes administered - again by someone qualified (most likely an A.V. or the breeder (possibly) that ya got it from)....You can also ask the breeder (I assume you have the phone #) to take the bird back for awhile? Good luck & holler if we can help anymore.
