Curly won't stay on his cage

How can I keep my CAG, Curly on his cage? I recently took the cage off of the rolling stand and now Curly wants to be on the ground every chance he gets. Ok, no problem, I thought that was great that he was feeling confident enough in the house now to do this. Well he just heads for the molding on the floor anywhere that he can get his beak on. I want him to be able to be out of his cage but as soon as I turn my back for a second he is off and running. The cage is in the family room and I can see him from the kitchen as it is pretty much an open layout so I would like to be able to cook dinner, etc without having to stop every second walk to him and tell him to get back on his cage. Any ideas? I have tried putting food and lots of treats on his cage, toys, and still he walks right past those and wants to be on the ground.

You're probably going to have to create a physical barrier to his escape. Does his cage have the seed guards that stick out from the sides? If so, they sometimes keep these guys where they belong. Think of trying to keep a squirrel away from a bird feeder and you get the idea.

Do you have a play gym for him?

Their cage doesn't have a seed guard, it is an older cage and I am saving for a new one and they don't have a play gym. I am deciding if I want on that is a swing or one that is a tree gym or both My husband thinks I am crazy but he loves me. I did put some pillows to block it and they did distract him. Neither bird (CAG) will step up yet but I can get them with a towel and I put him on the table next to the couch after I petted him and he seem to somewhat enjoy that atleast he seemed a bit content being out. I think he just needs some away from the cage time. I can put the cage back on the stand with wheels that will probably fix the problem.

None, and I repeat NONE, of my birds stay on their cages! Tonight the macaws came in from the porch and were roaming the house, looking for mischief. I had to get hubby to rescue me as Tinker will bite me.
I've tried everything here - not sure if there is an answer to this one! Sorry

Both my birds are pretty good about staying on the cage tops- they have PLENTY of toys up there to keep them busy. Miro will come down sometimes when he is bored, and when he does, I put him back INSIDE his cage, and close the door for a time out.

Zoe never leaves the cage top- I open the door, she climbs out, plays, and puts herself away when she is ready for bed.

Perhaps you need to put some toys up there- something to keep him interested... A bored parrot is a destructive parrot!!

We use duct tape on Rio. It's the only sure fire way to hold him.

LOL, I can just picture them on a seek and destroy mission. Gotta love macaws.

I must have the most bored parrot in the world! Billy has toys everywhere, so much wood to chew on you'd think I'd torn down a national forest... and he still goes for drywall. Y'think he has a drywall deficiency?

I must have a real bored parrot too. I have toys up there for him to play on, wood toys to chew with nuts to try to get out, little fruit kabobs, I tied corn on a string, which kept his attention til that was gone. I guess I need to try to get really creative on this one.
