Is it possible??

In July, my family is heading off to Penticton for a vacation..... for a month.

My mom and step-dad say its perfectly fine to bring Aree along.

We have a travel cage, and Aree's travelled before, but would the 8 hour car ride bore her too much? I would be sitting with her of course, but i'm wondering if thats too long?

We would probably be bringing her regular cage (its collapsable.) Is that a good idea? I just don't want her stuck in her itty-bitty travel cage for a month.

If there's anything else I should know or be warned against, please say so.

Thanks!

I've taken both of mine to the in-laws. The drive can be seven hours at the most. They don't mind it at all. In fact, they both love to look out the window at people. We have been stuck in traffic before (when hubby was holding Peeps) and she would yell to anyone next to us trying to get their attention! The window was up, of course.

Ahhhhhh silly pois. How long was your trip? Not the car ride, but the vacation itself?

The longest drive I've taken with one of my birds is when I brought Saffron home from the breeder's. It was about 5 and a half hours and she did just fine. Put a toy or two in her cage and talk to her from time to time during the trip. I would suggest that you resist the urge to let her out while the car is moving, though. Wait until you stop for gas, snacks, restroom, etc to let her out for a few minutes. There are too many things that might frighten her while the car is moving and she could get herself hurt.

Have a nice trip :)

my Zoey is the noisiest little thing on trips when she is in her travel cage. Should I let her sit on my shoulder its like she is a seasoned tarveler.

The longest has been two weeks. Both of them love the attention they get there. On our last visit, Bo-Bo got to the point where he would go see other people. However, we have been there several times and he is somewhat familiar with the people. Plus, they were eating bugels! That caused him to come out of his shell and now he's not afraid to see other people. We don't let anyone hold Peeps because we are too afraid she will bite. She does love it when someone talks to her though, says her name, and calls her pretty bird!

4-day car trip w/a caique & gn. cheek

I drove from slc to phx. in 4-5 days with my mother and my two parrots. I was moving to phx. Both birds handled the trip well. They love car rides and the long one was no exception. In hotels, I often didnt tell the owners I had two birds. No one ever knew, as they were quiet and left no mess.

I have taken the gc on several 8 hour car trips and he handles them well! Once, I pulled over to get fast food and when the Jack in the Box employees saw Rocky, they insisted on making him a mini-milkshake! Starbucks also gave him a taste of apple juice. When staying at the Las Vegas Hilton, right after 911, a guard saw me carrying Rocky's small covered cage in. He stopped me to see what it was, and when he saw Rocky, he laughed and said "they wont care about a little bird...a cat maybe, but not a tiny bird." Once I got pulled over for a speeding ticket and Rocky had gotten out of the cage! It was all I could do to get him back in (he squirmed and fought) while the officer was walking up to the car. I am sure he saw me, but I dont think either of us knew if a loose bird in a moving car is illegal.
