KFC for Amazons?

I was in a pet store this last weekend. The "mascot" of the store, looks like a fairly mature Amazon, not for sale, was having an interesting lunch. He had a big breaded drumstick in his hand, and was munching away on it, cracking the bones open.

It was a strangely disturbing sight. The store was filthy, and seeing this very grumpy looking bird eating a piece of fried chicken...well, it really made me wonder how long this bird was going to be around.

Poor guy, but my cockatiel loved fastfood french fries. I would get a bag for him as a treat if I had him in the car. He'd only eat two and I'd get the rest. I feel bad for the carcass of a thanksgiving turkey that he'd try to eat the leg off of. Cooked of course! :p

Cockatiel vs'Tom was a bit of a laugh considering how big that bird was. He had the samething for the bones and a little of the turkey or chicken itself.

Puff does this kinda disturbing thing with a chk carcass (cooked of course) sits on top wraps wings around and goes to town ! Asked his av if was ok and he said thats what he would do out in the wild, so it is actually good for him. Yuk for me. Then he gets a very long shower to get the grease off !

Puff--there's nothing sadder looking than a soaking wet Goffin! *grins*

I've read that the occasional chicken bone is all right for birds. Indeed, our birds love the occasional bit of chicken boob (we only eat white meat chicken parts, here). Personally, we don't give our birds chicken bones, but more for the reason that when they drop anything they're eating, the dogs scramble to grab and gulp. I wouldn't want them doing that with chicken bones!
