I'm partial to poicephalus species. I love my Senegal, but I think all poi owners will tell you that their species is best. There are a couple of Poi specific boards on Yahoo if you want to do some more research.

My favorite birds of all are macaws, Blue and Gold macaws and Greenwings in particular. They are AWESOME. I have 2 greys, an Eclectus, a Yellow Nape Amazon, a Severe Macaw and a Quaker, but hands down, my 4 BGs are the best.

My Red Front Macaw is in my opinion the best. I have a TAG, Tiel, Budgie and my RFM is the most interactive, sweetest, and trusting. I love them all.

the perfect step up from a 'tiel, for me, is a quaker. I love mine SO MUCH. He has the personality and attitude of a large bird, but in a "travel size"
Not to mention he provides entertainment hours on end...who needs a t.v.? :D

conures vary in noise...usually, as a general rule, the more colors, the more noise...though all in all, it seems to be luck of the draw with them. Both my Conure and my Quaker were quiet when I got them, but as they got older they got A LOT LOUDER. Noise really seems to be more of an issue of individuality....my 'zon is EXTREMELY quiet.
I considered a Senegal, but the more I read up on the small/medium parrots the more I decided that the quaker was the way to go for me, and I'd still do it all over again. My Cayo is the most personable, loveable-but-still-full-of-hell, comical bird I've ever met, and I'm SO PROUD he's mine!

I am thinking you don't get the one on one that you want because you have quite a few budgies and they appear to all be in the same cage, which is good for them because they keep each other company, but they probably have bonded with each other and do not need to bond with you. I have owned budgies as pets and they make adorable loving affectionate talkative little buddies. I have had them as pets one at a time and they wanted to come out and be with me or someone. I own a Galah and she loves to be scratched and loved, I also own an eclectus and while she loves to come out and be with me and share my food and cup of tea and talks like a trooper, she is not the love sponge that I found the cockatoo type birds to be. I love her and realise she has a different way of showing affection to me.
