Puff, the lone tiel

Puff, my 14 year old tiel, who resembles ET more then he does a bird, is now alone. Some of you know my other tiel, Bud, passed on this past sunday.
This is the first time since 1986, that one tiel has been in my flock.
In 1986, My first tiel, Sydley came to live with me. I bought her for my then boyfriend(turned hubby / turned ex) because he was renting his first house, and I wanted to have a bird there, but was not about to bring any of my existing flock to his house. We went bird shopping, and Sydley being the clingy baby she was, hung on the cage and screamed for us till we picked her up and held her...I guess she picked us.
After many months, We got Nikki, another female tiel from the same shop.
Little by little, more tiels came my way through adoptions, and rescues. One even through a Raffle! Soon we had lots of tiels happily running our home.
They had a huge flight cage. There were 17 of them.
Some of them decieded to have eggs....Sydley was an egg nut! She has more eggs then I can remember, and I tried everything to stop her...but she was on a mission. There was no nest box, she just had them on the floor.
After a while I gave in and let her raise a few clutches. It was hard to do, but I found good homes for some, while keeping others.
Sydley passed on many years ago, as did her Mate, Travis, last year.
Puff is Sydley's son. He is her first borne. I can proudly say that this is the second generation of tiels that have lived thier entire lives in my home.
This is the first time I have even had that thought.
Today I ordered Puff a new cage. I figured that little guy, never cost me a dime, is getting up in years, and should have a mansion to call his own. The bars will be easier for him to manage with his age, Ollie will get the cage Puff is in now..His current cage is too large for one tiel....So everyone gets an upgrade.
I dont know how much longer he will be with me. It could be a day it could be 10 more years. I wont need the cage I ordered after he is gone, So I willl probably just donate it in his memory to a rescue. My flock consists of larger parrots and the new cage is 18x18x54(ish) It is because of my friends at Bird Paradise that I am able to do this.
Here is his new cage, that I will pick up next week.
Of course this means I have to make another matching cage skirt



currently, the large white cage is divided. Harley will have the big cage, Ollie will have the smaller of the two white cages, and Puff will have his next to them.

Aren't you just the sweetest with you babies...I've just ordered a new cage almost identical to that, only a tad smaller for My IRN...

Lisa, Puff is such a sweetie. He must miss the other Tiels, give him lots of extra loving and a kiss from me too!

Lisa, how is Puff adjusting to the loss of Bud? It has to be tough on him after having other tiels around for so long.

I love the new cage you ordered, I'm sure he'll love it too.

Lisa, that is an awesome cage. My quaker, Pickles, is in a cage like that one! He loves it and it is quite spacious!
