Question Pal for Tweety?

I got Tweety (cockatiel) about a month ago and he is doing wonderful He finally decided that he enjoys being misted about a week ago and I am getting him to eat some fresh foods and pellets. A couple of days ago he decided that he does NOT want to go back into his cage (present cage much larger that what he had spent 5 previous yr in and try to hide behind my head to avoid going back into cage. I take him out 4 to 5 times a day for around half hr to hr each time. His cage is in another room rather than in public.... we are smokers and have Little Man (old spoiled tom cat) who is jelious and is getting to spend more time outside now
Tweety is singing to me as I type (he can see me from room) and I'm taking back. Tweety has become VERY loving in the past couple of weeks and reallly enjoys his scritches. I am enjoying his company so mush that I have considered getting another bird, either another cockatiel or parrotkiet sp?.......... partial for my own enjoyment and also to keep him company.... Which would be better company since I don't want to breed?
Also I have a food question........I purchased food BEFORE I realized there was such a difference in brands. I am currently feeding Sun Seed Sunscription brand, daily formula pellets (had to mix grape nuts in at first to get him to eat them) and VITA cockatiel formula with tropical fruit (he doesn't eat the fruit much). Tweety also get 1/2 millet spray very 3rd day (more often and that is ALL he will eat) has cuttle bone and lava for beek. He was living on Hartz Bonanza and water when I got him.
Is his present feed/diet alright??? What do I need to do

Budgies (aka parakeets) may not get along well with tiels, but having them in seperate cages would be fine. Maybe even look into grass parakeets! Very nice little birds! Of course it's possible that Tweety could also get jealous over a new bird.
