Bird nesting emergancy! Respond A.S.A.P!!
Hi guys!
'm moving next week. Because of that, we kept all our barn doors closed, to prevent barn swallows nesting. (We didn't know what the new owners would think of them) Our plan backfired bigtime. They nested over our shed door, right on the top, between where it opens and the brick wall, so if we open it the nest will be destroyed! And there are eggs in it! And we haven't removed anything from it yet, so it needs to be opened. Does anyone know what to do? We're calling the city's bird society tomorrow to see if they have any ideas. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. |

You might try making something to put up at the corner of the shed door (where the door isn't in the way of anything), then gently taking the nest down (after taking the eggs out first), then putting the nest in the designated area (using a basket or little wooden box---attached to the shed---to hold the nest in) and put the eggs back in. The swallows may or may not accept it... If they don't then it was unavoidable... If they do, great news!
