My African Grey thinks my cat is mom

What do I do? My African Grey thinks my cat is mom and wants to cuddle up to him. My African Grey will scream when she is taken away from my cat. My cat doesn't mind the African Grey at all. Is this normal? What should i do?

I agree with Yehuda. I don't like to see "cute" pictures of animal adversaries paired. Its like Teflon: you never know when the accident will happen. And, it won't likely be the cat's fault. Parrots are wild and do pretty much whatever they feel like doing. Greys have very sharp beaks and could actually harm your cat, too.

We have to remember that WE control their environments, totally. They are at our complete mercy. I've read far too many sad tales on this very board about animal accidents and handfeedings gone wrong. Would you let your baby play with a tiger? If you look at the size of your bird and your cat, I think you can see why I asked.

Unfortunately - when it's too late, it's too late. There will come a point when the cat has had enough, or the bird has gone too far. I personally wouldn't take a chance on the nature of the beasts.

Save yourself the heartbreak now - do not let this be a routine. Please.

I am mom to a bird and a cat too. And my cat - "Baby Simba the bird friendly cat"- does not care about the bird - but no matter how sweet and "friendly" he is, I agree with the other posts - you never know when instinct is going to hit - it might be a second.
I have bird time and cat time.... Sometimes Baby Simba sleeps next to me on the sofa when Kukito is on my shoulder - but I never let my guard down... So, just be careful.

Syrlena, Baby Simba the bird freindly cat and Kukito the noisy one...

Be very careful, it only takes a split second-the phone rings, doorbell. You turn you back and your bird pays the price.

In addition to what Yehuda said about the cat's saliva-very dangerous.

I would not have a cat anywhere NEAR my birds.
