a garden just for the parrot

I have 2 raised beds for my vegetable garden. I have one of them devoted entirely to greens and veggies for Scarlett.

The mixed lettuces and swiss chard are already ready to be picked. I covered her dinner in greens tonight and she really enjoyed them. Tomorrow I'll pick the swiss chard for her. I am going to have to blanch most of it and freeze it because I have a ton of it and only 1 bird to feed.

Also growing for her: okra, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, green beans, and kale.

we're going to have to share the zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, and eggplant.

Man, I wish I could grow veggies! Unfortunately, our lot is very shady (7 very tall, very old Doug Firs, plus shade from the neighbors' firs in every direction), nothing even remotely fruit or veggie-like grows well here. Instead, we visit the organic food stores and get our greens there. Birds don't seem to care where they come from, but I wish I could save the dinero by growing them myself! Lucky you :-).

My idea of a garden for parrots is one planted with lots of bottlebrush and grevilleas to attract wild Rosellas and Lorikeets!

We've got a few miscellaneous fruit trees around here that give us some good stuff for us and the fildren. This year we also added some hot peppers to our small container garden we keep going for them. Won't they be happy when those are ready for picking!

Great idea 'bout the chard - too bad I finally didn't grow any this year - too many complaints from everyone - seems to be my most successful plant. This year however, I got back at them with beets - 4 rows - what was i thinking!! - lots of chinese lettuce + bok choy.

We have lots of rabbit friends that come in from the fields - we'll see how much lettuce or beans can make it this year. I plant a veg garden at my parent's farm so they can get fresh stuff - otherwise my brother buys not great produce when he shops for them - can't figure that out at all.

I love to garden, but my pal [boarder collie] keeps me slowed down with the frizzbie breaks. At least he helps me avoid a stiff back.
