Can I feed my 'tiel smaller pellets?

My tiels waste most of their pellets cuz once they chomp on it the big piece flys off and they move on to the next pellet. next thing I know their bowls are empty and theres pellets all over the place.
I dont mind cleaning it up, its just that the pellets are being wasted. I wanna know if it would be ok to feed them the parakeet/parrotlet sized pellets or if it would be an issue?

Smaller pellets shouldn't be a problem. I'm trying smaller pellets with my Timneh, because he just doesn't seem to eat bigger ones as much.

But, you must be prepared, waste will happen!!

Good luck

I buy Zupreem, and their cockatiel sized pellets are way too big IMO, and apparently in my birds opinion because he won't touch them. I buy him the budgie/parakeet size. But like Don said, some will still get wasted, but maybe not as much.

I've noticed Quaker and parakeets are supposed to share the same small pellets, but cockatiels have bigger pellets... quakers are bigger than cockatiels almost always... very weird Zupreem does that. Cockatiels will be fine on the smaller pellets.

My tiels aren't big fans of pellets but will eat small amounts of the Roudybush crumble. It resembles a seed a little more than the regular pellets do. I know people whose tiels won't eat any kind of pellets but the Zupreem fruit blend for finches - little tiny pellets. My tiels will eat these if I hold them in my fingers but don't seem to pick them up much on their own - with such small pellets it's hard to tell if they're eating them or not.

I had the same problem with the Zupreem cockatiel projectile pellets. RJ could really send those things flying. I now feed the parakeet size. Much better.

I give my tiel Zupreem and I would notice that I would have pellets flying across the room! You can give him smaller ones (parakeet) but if you still have a bag full of the big ones just crush them a little. after I started doing that I saw less on the floor (couch, coffee table, ect.).

typical - the Zupreem Cockatiel Fruit pellets I bought for the Tiels was a big hit - no waste - in fact they were so piggy I wondered if i was going to overfeed them.
I didn't think the pellets were too big (the banana shaped ones where the least favourite - about a 1/4 inch in the longest & 1/8th wide).
They also have a veggie/pellet/seed feed.

vegie/pellet/seed did you mix that or does it come like that?? I mix a few seeds in the fruit mix. I did purchase the new zupreme gourmet deal, but my tiels finish that very very fast and its too pricey. I purchased a 7 lb bucket for the same price, but it was only fruit mix.

The only problem for me to mix the seeds i n there is that you know the tiels pick out the seeds first its quite annoying to me lol. But I like the vigie pellets alot, they smell quite wonderful tee-hee and my tiels love em.
