sitting on your shoulder?

i'm just curious to know how many of you let your parrot sit on your shoulder? i know that some "bird experts" recommend not to do this but it seems many do it anyway?

We do not let our (18 month old male) Senegal sit on our shoulders. He has some height dominance issues and can get beaky up there! He is quite happy on a knee, hand, arm, tummy.

I let my sun conure on my shoulder, but I have him step up onto my finger every once in a while. If he doesn't step up when I ask him to, he doesn't get to go on my shoulder.

Ducky has been sitting on my shoulder since he came to live with me and this was LONG before I ever heard it should be avoided. At this point, I am not sure I should change this. Oh well!

My cockatiels sit on my shoulder and Mickey, one of my Greys. I'm not thrilled about Mickey being up there but I'm offering him whatever comfort he's looking for in hopes of controlling his feather plucking.

Our 7 year old CAG and our 12-ish year old B&G Macaw both sit on our shoulders without any problems. Every now and then they get nippy - but then, every now and then they get nippy when they're not on our shoulders. That being said, we also know their personalities well enough that we know when it's not such a good idea.

okay, i'm glad that there are those out there that do allow this. i'm relatively a "newbie" in the parrot world ownership and just want to make sure i do pretty much "the right stuff". i know there are varying opinions on everything and also just as i've read from your replies that many things depend on the bird, it's personality and what you feel comfortable with. i've had my lovie for about 8 mos. now and she always has been allowed on my shoulder (after stepping up on my finger...her wings are clipped) once in a great while she can get a little nippy and during those times she goes back to her cage. i just got a 5 mos. old caique and at this point have not allowed him on my shoulder (they're beaky birds and have a bigger beak than a lovie) but if he eventually would like to go there i may want to allow him. we'll just have to see.

Zoey, Benji and Cricket all get to sit on my shoulder most any time and there are no problems withh it. Sophie can only beon my shoulder if I am on the move or in the car. If she gets borde my ear becomes a great toy.

If the bird wants to sit och your shoulder, climbs up on the shoulder or land on the shoulder, what should you do to make the bird stop?

Mine do not and never have been allowed on my shoulder. If they go up there they have a time out in their cage.
