Would you swap one of your pet birds for another?
Please allow me a rant..
My thoughts on people who constantly swap one pet bird for another: I was browsing the forums I usually haunt when one post caught my eye. I realize full well that it is none of my business, but unable to stand a liar as I am I have to comment. Said person was talking about how they just brought home a B & G and would be handfeeding a GW in the near future as their pet as well. They rambled off a list of other birds they own, and most were unfamiliar as they have changed from just a couple months ago. The once-loved amazon they claimed they'd had for over ten years was nowhere to be seen, as well as several other breeder pairs I knew they had that had been put up for sale that very few people knew about. This is the same person I saw in a thread here talking about how they welcomed a home visit from any bird shelter because they took great care of their birds and would provide a forever home, only there wasn't a shelter within distance. Let's face facts, it's not about distance as there are three shelters within distance that are darn near desperate for adopters. It's about how no legit shelter with a lick of common sense is going to adopt to a breeder. (And having been asked before if this person breeds they flat out lied and said no - yet anyone with a working search engine can find their website that sure does show that they breed several types of birds) Or a person who changes and swaps birds like most change their underwear. That's the reason the poor shelter directors are running at full capacity most times. I'm not mentioning names, but if anyone steps forward to want to challenge me on this I won't hesitate to show proof, not that it matters that much. I just had to express my disgust at this blatant disregard for the poor birds and how THEY feel about it. I can't stand people who claim they're a perfect home, and are nothing near it in real life. I get the feeling they wouldn't be a respected member anymore if folks were able to see the truth. But then again maybe nobody cares about the poor birds being traded for something else when they aren't good enough anymore. So please, give your fids a hug and tell them they are loved. There are unscrupulous people around who don't feel the same about THEIR birds. And yep, they're right here amongst you. /endrant So what are you guys' thoughts on people who swap their birds for other ones once they get tired of them? Or people who sell their "pets" in order to make room for the "upgrade"? |

I think you are trying to start a fight.

Dayna is probably correct. I see that you are a new member to this forum. I wonder what other forums you belong to.
I don't like it when people "swap" birds, but I'd rather a bird be in a loving home than simply "tolerated" by someone that doesn't love them. I haven't swapped any birds. I have rehomed my ekkie and I know I did the right thing for her. If that bothers you, I'm sorry. Frankly, I loved her enough to realize that I couldn't meet her needs. I wanted to, but I just couldn't. I don't breed anything so I know you weren't directing you tirade at me, but I suspect you don't like how I handled that either. JMHO

Hmmmmm - since I don't breed I know I AM NOT the person you are referring to - yes, I did bring in a M2 and rehomed a B&G to a wonderful person. I did this in the best interest of the bird. I am not sure who you are referring to and not sure I like where this is headed

Trading is not uncommon among bird fanciers however, misrepresentation of oneself is a matter of ethics.
If this is an intent to defame a person here, please don't. That is not what this board is all about. You do not have to respond to the ad, trade or otherwise sell to anyone you don't wish to. Alice |
