Hi there. I just joined this Forum today and am genuinely delighted with the thoughtful responses and helpful advice given. I'm hopeful that I can garner some advice from others who have more knowledge of the bird world than myself.
I have an incredibly sweet, very loved Maxi Pionus named Tango. Tango is 2 years old and I've had her since she was weened. She is sweet, loving, intelligent and a great friend. She is very friendly and loves both my husband and I very much, but in different ways - I'm"The Mom" and he is the object of her affetions. I would love to add another FID to our home. We have plenty of room and more than enough love to go around. I just don't want to offend Tango's sensibilities and make her feel unloved/unwanted. I've also tried to ascertain from my vet and others on the Internet as to what breed of parrot would be best suited for a Maxi Pi. My vet tells me that any type of bird would probably be fine, but there are no guarantees. Obviously I would provide different cages for each of them (Tango is very bossy when it comes to her cage). I have always loved Eclectus parrots, but am not certain if they are good with other birds. Does anyone have any suggestions on any of this? Your replies are much appreciated. Thanks, MaxiMom P.S. I would love to post a picture, but I can't for the life of me figure out how!?!? HELP!

Hi MaxiMom,
Welcome to Bird Board. To attach a picture post in "advanced mode" and in the tool bar look for a little picture of a mountain. Click on that and follow the prompts to upload a picture. When considering what type of bird to add to a flock the choices are endless. However, my personal preference is to keep birds from geographical areas. For example, I have South American birds and I probably wouldn't add African or Australian parrots to my flock. This is not based on scientific fact, just my own personal preference. Plus, there are plenty of beautiful South American birds to choose from =:). I have heard that some birds will have trouble living with a high dander bird like a cockatoo or a cockateil. Maybe you should get a green bird??? I am partial to little green birds =:) You will want to introduce your new bird to her "flock", and I am sure you will get plenty of advise on how best to do that. Many parrot owners have several happy & adjusted parrots in their homes. Happy Hunting!

When adding to our flock I was always worried, as well.
Not only about the other birds in the house, but also about the 2 dogs and 2 cats that live with us. We have been very, very fortunate in that everyone gets along fine. I think another addition would be fine, and wish you the best of luck. Let us know what you decide and how it goes!
