Hi All Bird-Lovers
I'm new to the Board and don't have my bird... yet! I've been researching and visiting the local bird store for a few months now, trying to figure out the best one for me, and for my side-kick...Wrigley, a cockerspaniel, age 6. I am considering a Blue Quaker or a Green-Cheeked (yellow sided) Conure, which the store has now, each bird is about 10 weeks old. This conure is a spit-fire hellion and spunky... The quaker is timid and standoffish, at least at this young age. I would like a bird that is not shy and that is cuddly, fun, and interactive. Ideally, I would like the bird not to be afraid of my dog, and would prefer that my dog be intimidated by the bird, which is a likely potential as he's a sweet, mild-mannered dog. Could you all give me some key comparisons and things to know as between these 2 specific breeds? If another type seems more appropriate and stands out to you, please tell me. I don't want to go big though, i.e. over 10-12". Thanks!!

I have found the Blue Quakers to be more independent in raising them. They are generally very sweet and I have noticed not as vocal as the Green Quaker but then you just never know once they get a little older.
The Conures can be a little on the "spunky" side, argumentative but sweet. Quakers can be argumentative as well and their temper tantrums are funny from what I have seen particularly in the Green Quaker. This is a hard decision as they both can be very nice pets. I personally would lean toward the "spunky" one. I really enjoy the conures in particular. Alice |
