Warning: Infected Birds Inhabit S.F. Zoo Exhibit

Let's all hope that we don't have an outbreak of Beak & Feather Disease as a consequence of a decision to go forward with an interactive exhibt at the San Francisco Zoo of birds that tested positive for this fatal virus. Those living in S.F. or planning to visit there should avoid the zoo at all costs. I can't believe this story....but here's the link.

I saw that last week on another board. In fact, I think I also posted a thread somewhere around here. In any event, that really makes me nuts. How absolutely irresponsible can they be. Did it never occur to them that people that love birds and HAVE birds would likely want to see theirs?

Crazy-stupid for the powers-that-be at that zoo to deliberately expose people, and through them, their own birds, for the sake of the almighty dollar.

Probably a good idea to post this story every couple months. I'm wondering if there has been any follow-up & if any other Zoos are upset -after all they have birds too + reputations to uphold.

As I said before - after all the upset about Mad-cow & Avian Flu - just what will the Official response be & who will suffer - outside of the owners & the pets, when this thing gets really out of hand? Will there be bans on bird ownership, like with the Quaker?

edit: I just sent an email/letter to our local Zoo & am hoping for a response.
