Lightbulb Full Spectrum Lighting???

Ok I know several threads have discussed the benefits, if any of full spectrum lighting. My question is, who uses it, and have you seen any results??? And what brand of bulb do you use??? I am going to add recessed lights in the ceiling above our birds play area, and am looking for input on lighting. I figure I might as well try full spectrum bulbs. Thanks for the info!!!

I know very little about FS lighting. But what i have heard is that the lights have to be less then 2 ft (of something like that) from the bird for it to "work"

I also know a person that has a Grey what was really aggressive. They changed the diet and added FS lighting and both have help its temperment. Not sure how much of that is FS lighting, or if it was just the diet.

Thats is about the extent of my FS lighting knowledge!

good lord are there ever a lot of opposing views and tests. All I know is I live in an area that rarely sees the sun due to fog...........I have hung a full spectrum light above the fids cages. We all seem much happier. The fixture cost $29.00 at home depot and the tubes came from........well crap I seem to have deleted it from my favorites. If you want to know all the tech stuff about them I believe it was Joel that preety much studied this. My birds do get real sun occasionally as well. I like the idea of the lights and Zoey and Sophie and Benji all love it too!!!

When I bought a new ginormous cage for Scar, I put her smaller Kings Cage outside on the patio. She spends many hours out there on nice days so I figure she is getting a good dose of full-spec UV, fresh air, and mental stimulation that way.

I don't have anything set up in her room for during the winter, though.

I recently added FS lighting to Spencer's cage. Until I did it, he never really hung out at the top of his cage, other than to sleep at night. Lately when I come home fron work, I've found him at the top of his boing, just under the light. It's too soon to say I've noticed any changes. But, he does seem to enjoy it.

Our bird club just had the owners of FeatherBrite in PA speak about full spectrum lighting last Sunday. (If I can find their info, I'll send it to you!) After listening to their speil, quite a few of us bought their lights. My husband, the disbeliever, bought one for each of our birds (Sun Conure and Ducorps Cockatoo). I thought the cockatoo would be the one to use it, but came home yesterday to find the Sun perched under it. The cockatoo was too! Being a person that suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder and having my own sunlight, I can understand their enjoying the light. I'll let you know in a few weeks if there are any changes. To early to tell right now. Pam
