Scared Poopless

Only Parronts Will Appreciate This

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the newbies, I only recently acquired Eenie, my GW, on New Year's Day. She came to me underweight and pretty darn sick. After much medicating, she recovered and is her amazing self today.

Because she was so ill, I am really neurotic about her poop. She had a horrible bacterial infection and it was hard to clear up. Everytime I introduce a new fruit or veggie, it always effects her droppings.

Twice, she's had some suspicious droppings that really had me alarmed. One miraculously cleared up by the next day and the one today had me shaking in my boots. Why? Because for the first time, she had wet nares. I feared a respiratory infection.

Thankfully, I decided to place her on her bottlebrush gym and went back to the birdroom to retrieve her poopy paper. Those wet nares really scared me.

That was until I made this observation: pieces of dropped blueberry muffin and soaked papers under her water dish. In fact, there was only about 3 TBs of water in the dish.

Hmmmmmmm It was then that the went off. Appears that Miss Eenie had decided to bath in her dish. Trust me: David Copperfield could NOT bath a GW in that water dish. Hence, only her beak and nares would actually fit in the dish. Add one foot for splashing, and VIOLA! msytery solved.

The strange droppings were dilluted blueberry poop.

You gotta love em!

Oh dear - & there you were running around trying to find out what illness she had. Thank goodness your detective work paid off!
I loved the David Copperfield part - I can't imagin a GW bathing in their water dish - silly bird.
Congrats

I've seen little Petey McSweet bathe in his water dish, and Evil Eddie, but not in my wildest imaginings can I even imagine a GW trying! Thank goodness your worries were baseless!

Wow, I know it wasn't funny at the time. Panic sucks. Quito fits quite well into her water dish, of course. I usually change her food and water before I put her to bed, since I have to be up and out of the house by 3:30am and she needs her beauty sleep. I'm very careful about giving her baths, never any later than early afternoon so she can be thoroughly dry before bed time, and I never let the water be too cold.

Well, the other night I changed her water dish and she decided that was the perfect time for a bath! We have well water, and its really ice cold, and here it was almost bed time! I was scared to death that she'd catch cold.

Well, Nancy, it seems that you are not giving poor Eenie the proper amount of hygiene. Bless her heart, had to bath is a thimble full of water. You really should try and do a little better Nancy. She sounds pretty neglected to me.
