A Conversation Heard This Morning....

Between Bob and Arthur, as they were placed on the honkin' huge perch while I clean cages....

Arthur (to Bob): HI!!!

Bob: (to Arthur): Hi! Step Up!!

Arthur (to Bob): NO WAY!!

LOL! Had to take a break to share that :-). Not huge conversationalists, but they get their points across!

Wow do they always talk to each other in English?

That's so sweet

Reminds me a bit of the time I met an American in here in Turkey and we both started talking to each other in Turkish instead of English I guess it was a bit like that except with birds

It makes me wonder how much they really understand. That's just too funny. :)

I think they understand an awful lot! Arthur hears me say "no way" to things all the time. This was the first time he ever said it! Since he doesn't like to step up, and I'm constantly having to work with him on it, I'm pretty sure he knew what he was saying :-).

No, they don't always talk in English (they're both pretty young, after all, and their vocabulary isn't huge), but they do sometimes. Also heard today:

Bob: Arthur!
Arthur: Hi!
Bob: Arthur!
Arthur: I love you....
Bob: Step Up!

LOL! Bob always acts like a bossy older brother to Arthur.

"Step Up" is one phrase Bob knows and uses often. He learned it at the bird store, and is very good at it. When he wants to be picked up, he often asks, in the proper questioning tone, "Step Up?"

Scar likes to talk to one of my cats. When he walks into her room she says "Hi SoCo!" Then if he starts whining because he wants to go outside, she'll say "stop it!" When she is really mad at him she says "bad bird!"

There's this one post up on ThePearch.com about two CAGs Gemini is the name of one and I can't recall the other. The two don't like another and belittle another and say some pretty mean things to another in English. :) I guess the mind of a parrot is meant to remain a mystery still it's amazing how they learn the accurate use of human languages.

Wow, it must be great listening to them everyday

I was at the pet shop yesterday (the one place I always go when I'm in town) They have a macaw and an African grey parrot. The African grey started (in Turkish) Hello hi hello hi hi hi until he got my attention then called me a pretty bird and asked for a head scratch Wish I could have bought him he's great but selling for around 2000 dollars..
