Hi,
Calphalon One is not safe for birds! They use non-stick materials on the outside of their pans. It is still a PTFE like compound that if overheated kills birds. The only bird safe pans are made of stainless steel or solid cookware made of anodized aluminum. What they call CALPHALON ONE Infused Anodized cookware is still cioated on the outside with a non stick compound. see http://www.calphalon.com/calphalon/c...Id=CLCat100144 This was my response from Calphalons public relations people when I researched their product for my PTFE section on my website. Not only did they say that they could not supply MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) sheets as required by law, They admitted to the use of the PTFE type compound as a part of the manufacture of their cookware. Read the following: PLEASE note the reference to POLYtetra-Flouro Ethylene, PTFE, the generic name for TEFLON, the material that when overheated will kill birds almost immediately. Remember, this is from Calphalon and they say it will kill birds if overheated. It is identical to Teflon. CALPHALON RESPONSE > Thank you for contacting Calphalon. Unfortunately we do not have the ability to send you MSDS sheets. > > Our nonstick surface is Polytetra-Flouro Ethylene. Fumes are generated when this ingredient contained in Teflon, T-Fal, Supra and Calphalon Nonstick products is combusted. The normal use of products containing PTFE does not present a hazard in any manner to exotic birds. However, should a pan be boiled dry, or placed on a burner empty for a period of time, then there becomes a real and overt danger of Teflon Fuming Syndrome occurring. While the fumes generated do not pose a threat to human beings, they are, indeed deadly to such birds as parrots, macaws, cockatoos, etc. The fumes prevent the normal carbon dioxide-oxygen exchange to occur in the lung tissue, thereby smothering the bird from lack of oxygen. We recommend contacting a veterinarian for further information concerning the wellbeing of your pet birds. > > Thank you, > > Calphalon Consumer Relations Please read my section on PTFE at my website http://www.birdscomefirst.org then click on the BIRD CARE button then scroll down to the section, The dangers of PTFE. This is not just blowing wind, This was carefully researched by me and as in the above instance, i have the documentation from the manufacturers to prove that they use "Teflon" calling it by the generic name. They also don't fully apreciate the biology of a birds breathing system. Teflon toxicosis, the actual name of the effect of overheated teflon. damages the lung tissue and cuases bleeding and internal hemorhaging in the lungs, eventually suffocating the bird. It is a horrible death. My opinion, Stay away from Calphalon and all the other manufacturers named on my website. I have researched them all and they all use PTFE as a part of their product Bill

Also contrary to Calphalon's claims that it is harmless to humans, DuPont, Teflon acknowledges that it is ,and the name of the disease caused by humans breathing in overheated teflon is Polymer Fume Fever. It can cause serious lung problems in humans. It has also been found in independent experimentation that the polymer, PTFE, Poly tetra flouro Ethylene breaks down at temperatures much lower than those claimed by the manufacturers. Some will break down at normal cooking temperatures. It is very possible that unattributed bird deaths are caused by this but we will never be sure as many birds die for unknown reasons and are never necropsied (bird autopsy)

I also read that it causes issues with hormones with humans too, and there's been an increase of hairloss in women lately also...Not to mention other things. Our FIDs have been that canary in the coal mine for too long. I worry about my sister who lives not far from DuPont's one plant in South Jersey has possible issues of contaiminated drinking water due to the release of teflon into the river. If you have any recommendations for any andomized brands.

Thank you so much for posting this information. While I have always been aware of the dangers of PTFE, I was not aware that the Calphalon One Cookware contained it - it gets boxed up to be given away when I get home this evening.
Thank you again.

I love my cast iron frying pans! What worries me is things like the little warming plate on the coffee maker.
