Hope I can ask here, what bird?

Hi,
I am doing research on birds trying to decide which would be best; I would appreciate any input I can get.
I had a Nanday, Buzzard- Buzz. He was wonderful and I just can't imagine a better pet/companion. I'm a bit concerned that another Nanday would be very loud. I understand there is noise if you are going to have a bird but I'd like to try to keep relentless screeching to a minimum if that's possible. I'm also alittle fearful about biting. I can take some but I really am alittle concerned that if I get a biter I will shy away from handling him/her. I didn't think I cared if my bird talked but when Buzz started talking it added a whole new dimension to our "relationship" so I would like to get a bird that has a relatively high possibility to speech if possible but by far the most important factor is personality; a real companion like Buzz was. Happy, playful, cuddly etc. I realize there are no guarantees and with the right training most birds will love you. I trained Buzz from a baby still being weaned at the Pet store (they let me go in and spend time with him) but I won't have that opportunity if I have a bird shipped from a breeder (there are no local ones). I have been considering Senegals and Mitreds but honestly so many have so many great character traits. Anyone have an opinion?

Hi,
I'm a little reluctant to ask, What happened to Buzz? I'm sorry if he became ill or something of that sort. I like conures very much as they are a lot of fun!

How about a handfed, tame male cockatiel? Usually good talkers, usually affectionate and enjoy interacting with their humans, don't bite TOO hard if they bite, and not as noisy as conures, by far.

I hear pionus are very sweet birds and fairly quiet, but as I've never had one and I've only known one, I'm not sure about their "snuggle" factor or how well they talk. They are very pretty birds, for sure!

Pionus are very quiet. Mine loves to be with me, sitting on my shoulder is one of her favorite things. She's not very hands on though, she likes the head scritches, but she's not super cuddy.....

She can turn the volume up at times, but it doesnt' last long, I've NEVER heard her scream.

One thing I have to add, with Pi's, their body language is very different from macaws....check out my webpage, I have pictures of what a mad pi looks like.

Good luck in your decision.

Looked at your white cap pi--you're right, I've never seen such an iridescent rainbow of a bird before. She's gorgeous!

I can see a budgengaltieltimnahpionous is the bird for me! Now if I can just manage to breed one! So many good ideas- too bad I can only have one bird. Also, I don't need a quiet bird- just one that's not prone to excessive screeching at the top of his lungs. I also know that all birds will bite- just want a breed that's maybe not as "bitey" as others.

Bill- I don't know what happened to Buzz. I've been reading articles trying to figure it out, he was loosing feathers and eating voraciously (his only two symptoms) I went out of town and he was gone before I got back. I didn't know about burning griddles etc. maybe there was something I didn't know... though that's the only thing I can think of. He loved to chew on shiny things but I was pretty discriminate about what he played with. I got him from petco; maybe something congenital??? Sure wouldn't mind hearing from you all about the possibilities.
