Question Backing Up?

So Rigel does this thing where he backs up against an arm or hand and just sits there, like he's tired of holding up his tail and would like to just have a seat, like in a chair. There's no humping, but I sort of assumed it was some first clumsy attempt at it. He's only 7 months old. Opinions?

Its entirely possible, we never had him blood tested because it wasn't a big deal to me. Plus, everyone said his colors were brighter and that boys are like that. I was originally going to give him a girl's name, but nothing good seem to fit except Rigel, so I went ahead and assumed I had a boy.

So is this behavior something you've seen with girlie birds?

It does sound like sexual behavior. It's more girl style than boy style, although I have a male cockatiel who sometimes backs into things with no humping.

That's where I got the name too :) I guess it just never seemed like a girl name to me.

I suppose this is the kind of confusion I could have avoided by getting the blood test...*sigh*

Well, some birds just like to "lay down" or "get comfy"... if Rigel is just sitting/laying like that I wouldn't worry about it... as to me it doesn't necessarily sound like female behavior...

My GC does that too but recently has started also "grinding" when she does, on my hand or sometimes my shoulder. I also see her now doing that on a perch from time to time - it drives Pepper crazy and he always moves over next to her and tried his darndest to "help" but she never quite lets him manuever into the right position.

Neither of them are DNA tested, I just pegged their sexes based on behaviour but so far everything seems to point out that I was correct.
