Question Left over water from boiled vegies.

Hi there guys,

I was wondering if the left over water after having boiled veg could be saved and given to your birds as a source of vitamin like drinking every once in a while. as many of you probably know a lot of nutrients escape from the veg into the water during the boiling process, can birds drink this water and benefit from it?

Also what is a paulie rope, I am in the state now of making my own parrot toys as they are so damn expensive and I am coming accross names of things that I have no idea about, like whiffle ball. What is that?

Cheers Guys.
Kikibird.

the dollar tree has pkg's of wiffle balls. they have a pkg of golf ball size(12) in the pkg, and large ones(5) in the pakg. They also have 300ft of sisal rope for 1.00. hubby and I spent the weekend making toys. we got our vitacritter dye sample pack and made baby rio a whole toybox full of stuff for when he comes home.

Paulie rope is colored polyethylene (plastic) rope designed for use with birds. There's some info on it at http://www.nalanitoys.com/Paulierope.htm

There are also different types of cotton rope designed for use with birds. I've recently started making my own toys, not so much because of the cost but because most of the manufactured ones don't look like anything my birds would really enjoy. The few I've made so far have had a lot of entertainment value!

I re-use the liquid from boiling sweet potatoes or other veggies and steam my rice or cook my pasta in it for the birds.

I would think it has bacteria from the foods, but I have no idea. I don't know if I would let them drink it.

I doubt that any bacteria would survive boiling. Pesticides might be a different concern IF you didn't thoroughly wash your veggies before you cooked them. Bacteria COULD grow in the veggie water if it was allowed to stand without proper refrigeration. If you wanted to pour the liquid into a fridge container and use it to cook rice, pasta, birdie bread, beans, etc., I don't see much issue with it.

I doubt that many of the vitamins would survive boiling either!
