I guess I'm bitten... in more than one way

I agree with all of ya. A chunk of my heart was still with that Senegal....

I had to go back & find out more info on it.....
such as if it liked my wife.
As you can see from the attachments, (that's my wife Judy), it liked her just fine.

Apparently this bird has been kinda picky about who it comes to. There was a woman who had just bought the other senegal and this one didn't like her at all.
The other one was quite comfortable with her though.

Turns out both of these are very young birds, still not completely weaned. Of course, the neither has been DNA'd, so their true sex is still a mystery. They're at 2 feedings a day right now, but it's about to go down to one this week. I was told they won't let them go home with any customer for at least another month or so though. She also said if we were going to purchase the bird and there were the food allergies to deal with, a month would allow plenty of time to switch the Sennie to whatever new foods with the least amount of stress to the bird.

Today's visit seemed like it was "test" day for me. The Sennie tried to find out if I was chewable and how hard it could bite me.
It thought my thumb was a good target. I rotated my hand so it couldn't get at it.
Then it started trying to pick at the skin between my fingers.
A few well timed light bounces of the hand convinced it that was a shaky course of action.

After about 15 mins, it finally decided the test was over and I had passed. I started gently stroking it's back & it relaxed to the point it's eyes started to close.

I think that went rather well.
The next hurdle is the $. As ya all know, the original outlay of $ is steep. There's the cage, toys, playstand or perch. though with a Senegal, I think a really good playstand would be a better choice.

Which brings up another point:
All the stuff ya have when you have to get out of a "hobby".
I've been given no choice; the last reaction I had after cleaning a tank was pretty severe. My Doc says the next one could be potentially life threatening. I've been using the big gloves, but accidents happen. Reluctantly I MUST to get out of the aquaria/fishkeeping altogether. :(
I got a bunch of equipment & fish I need to sell....
You can check out the list of stuff here:
http://www.plecofanatics.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=19347

Hmmm,
That would provide me with the majority of the funds towards it, as well as give me the room I'd need for the bigger cage if I broke down & got that Sennie.

That would leave only the hardest thing of all left to do......
come up with a name.

Apparently you have to be a registered member to see your aquaria posting, Buteo. All I got was the box to enter my username and password....

Prolly just as well. I keep thinking I should rehome my 100 gallon freshwater aquarium, as Z hates cleaning it, and I can't....

C-cell battery powered tank vac.
each tank has a veggie clip.

The age of the various equipment is 9 months or less.
The first one to show up with $700 CDN, takes it all.
It's a great deal for anyone in the Toronto/Hamilton/Niagara falls area of Southern Ontario.
The email is sc0repio(AT)mountaincable.net.
Just replace the (AT) with an @ - I used it to foil email searchbots.

My daughter is upset about it, but fully agrees with our decision.
She says "If it's a choice of my Daddy getting sick or us keeping our fish, I'd rather have Daddy stay outta the hospital thank you very much."

This is a MUST SELL ASAP deal.
For my health and the fish's sake, the sooner, the better.
My daughter adds:
"Please come and give our fish a good home!"

Handfed babies will do that. They're used to getting food from hands, and in the absence of food will try to find out if the hands themselves can be eaten. I recently got a newly-weaned cockatiel who at first seemed to have an absolute need to eat solid food from my hands - eating the exact same stuff from a cup or off the tabletop wasn't comforting enough. For about a week she would gnaw my fingers while she was at it, then stopped doing it after she figured out they weren't edible.

We have a God-feather Sennie who visits us often. After much trial and error on names s/he
was named Jade for the beautiful colors in the feathers. It's a name that really fits the lively little bird. di

So cute!! it seems like you and your wife have been chosen. No point in fighting it. Just drink a few less beers and have hot dogs instead of steak.
How much is he/she going for? We got Jessica for around $600 cnd (on sale from 900ish) + all the stuff. So she wasn't that bad for an initial cost. (I put out more for my last PC ;) )

Nope, no doubt about it. he/she's as good as yours......

Sorry to hear about your fish

We had fish in a 50 gal aquarium, for years - it was beautuiful. We kept Koi Angel Fish. They started out the size of a quarter & ended up being 3 1/2'' tall in the body alone.
Here's are some links to internet places to post your aquarium:
http://www.infopet.ca/
this is at the bird section but you'll know what to do -
http://www.adoptananimal.ca/search.p...l=9&browse=all
adpost can be 'tuned' to the very area you live in: http://www.adpost.com/ca/ontario/pet...hamsters_mice/
http://www.gotpetsonline.com/cgi-bin/Eware/view_ads.cgi

I hope you get some interest so you can start saving for the Sennie. I guess you'll be doing lots of research on them. YOur bird stories are the craziest. You were smart to include your wife - these birds are a handful. With everyone in on it from the beginning, hopefully he/she will be very happy.
I know the cage & toys are expensive - you could start looking in adpost, I think I saw a great cage up in Muskoka. That would get the costs down.
Good Luck
