Bee Pollen Question

I've been thinking of incorporating ground bee pollen into my bird's diet. I've heard I can get them at health food stores.

My question is...
Many people recommend Avian Trio.

- Will regular human grade bee pollen do the same job or is there something special about AT?
- If I get some from my local health food store, is there anything I should ask about their particular bee pollen before offering it to my bird? E.g. if it's human grade (although if it's being sold in a store like that, it has to be), etc.

Thanks!

Hi Kathy - I just purchased bee pollen last month for my birds. what I bought is Stakich 100% pure, natural unprocessed, organic bell pollen - no preservatives. I mix it in with various foods but it can also be offered by itself. I can't address the Avian Trio but wanted to give you the info on what I have. I purchased it a store not far from me which is run by a husband/wife team who breeds tiels, greys, parrotlets, english budgies and Quakers. I love the store...dangerous that it's so close!

interesting. My parents did bees this past summer, and I'm wondering what 'bee pollen' is? is it a ground powder, or is it raw, unprocessed honey?

I LOVED the raw honey, it was delicious! I'll be getting some to feed to my lorikeet this next summer. The nice thing about the raw honey was that it still contained the pollen, and other 'impurities' from the source.

I purchased powdered bee pollen from my health food store several months ago. I added it to my birds food mix along with Brewers Yeast and dried greens.

My birds look just beautiful and seem to be so full of health!

Even my old geriatric guy is walking around strutting his stuff!

I noticed that more and more avian health suppliers are now carrying it. It just seems a bit cheaper to just buy it at the health food store...
