can we talk about poop?

I love my budgies. The kids and I are having a lot of fun with them. My husband is okay with the birds but he's really bothered by the poop. We try to carry paper with us to get the poop up right away. We have all tile floors, no carpets. The floors are washed at least once a week. Occasionally the birds will poop on my desk, someone's shoulder, etc. I told him you can't potty train birds. He is getting really paranoid about the poop and I guess I can see where he's coming from. It's not very sanitary. He wants me to start spraying bleach water and not just wiping them up.

What do you all feel about poop? Does it bother you, or are you just used to it? How do you contain it, especially if you have a spouse or family member who's not as keen on the birds as you are?

I just keep it cleaned up. Our fids are pretty good about not pooping on us but sometimes it happens.

can we talk about poop? bird people talk way too much poop all the time LOL

poop - what's that again? oh, that stuff that seems to go everywhere... i wipe the poop up as soon as it's produced (if i see the production process). so, it's somewhat under control i would say... doesn't bother me much, and BF doesn't care much either (only if it's one of those days when i walk out the door with the morning poop on my shoulder and nobody tells me until noon).
i wouldn't use bleach water around the birds - why don't you get some poop off? you can find it in most pet stores, and it cleans birdie poop up really nice...

As long as you clean it up right away it's fine. It's when it dries it sets like concrete!

I have a blanket over my chair tho catch poos, can just sling it in washer with the dogs bed then.

As far as poop goes (which can be far at times lol)...if I am planning on handling my Senegal (my Parakeet doesn't like to be handled) and having him "on" my body I will make sure I wear an older or bird friendly shirt that I don't mind if it gets pooped on a bit.
We have a vinyl tablecloth underneath his cage so it is very easy to sweep/mop any pop that makes it out of the cage.
If he happens to poop on the floor while I have him I tend to just wipe it up with a paper towel.
If he poops on a counter or tabletop then I will clean it up with a paper towel and an avian approved cleanser (like "poop-off").

Be very careful of the cleansers that you use around birds. If your hubby insists on having some kind of disinfectant used then please visit a pet/bird store and purchase an "avian approved" disinfectant so that way you won't harm your birds.
