Fischers Pics and a bit of a rant...

As promised- Pics of the New Lovebirds, too!

They are, along with the other lovebird that already lives here, the LOUDEST birds in the house... Not Decibel wise- BUT THEY DO NOT STOP! Squeak Squeak Squeak. I think that they need oil.

Now for the rant. We got these at the same show that we got the new Grey at... They were, however, at a different breeder. They were more of a hobby breeder, not a full time bird person. They had 3 of these guys in a cage when we first visited, and later when we came back, there were 2. We were only going to get one, but felt bad leaving one alone, so I came back and bought the other, too.

We were ASSURED by the breeder that they were fully weaned- They had pellets and seed in the cage. But, when they got home, they showed no sign of interest in them- And begged for food, trying to eat off of our hands. They kept crying and begging- it was painfully clear that they were NOT weaned, and NOT ready to eat on their own.

It was no biggie for us- We have both handfed before- BUT I really wonder about the other one that they sold. I hope it made it to a home where they know SOMETHING about birds- And realize that they NEED to feed it.

That breeder just plain LIED to sell some birds a little sooner... I hate that.

OK- Rant over.

Andrew

Andrew they are gorgeous, I just love the Fischers. I would love to have one but I know what you mean they are non stop chatty.

As far as the guy who sold them to you, I think it's terrible and sure do hope that the other one was sold to someone that can spot the signs of a hungry bird and then know what to do

So glad that you know how to feed, some breeders just don't care as long as they get the $$$$ They are beautiful little ones. Had a similar experience with Puff.

some birds, while they are weaned at a breeder, sometimes revert back to formula when they go to a new home. Its not uncommon at all. The changes take away their security so they revert back to having to be formula fed again. Maybe this was the case in this instance.

Not to be the bad guy, but I have weaned many lovebirds and cockatiels. I have sold them in my store after being weaned for 1 to 2 weeks. They eat great! Then they get to their new home and beg for a handfeeding becuase they are scared. The owners are always warned of this from me and always I will either go to their home and feed or they can bring the bird back to me a couple times a day till the little one gets settled.

It happens. The breeder may not have known that this might happen since it is a hobby breeder and not a larger scale one. When you get one baby begging, all babies seem to beg. So it may have only been one even that reverted, but the other saw it begging and decided to do it too.

Stuff happens, glad that you were prepared.

They MAY have been weaned, but I seriously doubt it. My Severe 'reverted' when I got him, and went from being completely weaned to requiring 2-3 feedings a day when he came home- But I was warned that this might happen. With the Grey I just bought, I was told by the breeder that he still wanted a feeding or two a day, though he was eating solid food... The people with the lovebirds didnt say anything about handfeeding- Even pretty much assured us that they were completely weaned... If we didn't know what the begging was, and weren't watching what they ate and their weights, there could be trouble...
