Macaw Chewing on feathers
My Calico Macaw whenever he loses a feather, he always takes it and chews on it and still preens it like its his own still. I was wondering if any other macaws are doing this too and if its normal?

Hi Fitzlove! I don't have a macaw but a blue crowned conure & he does the same thing. He'll chew on the quill end for a little while, then preen the feather part for a little while, then drop it & go back to preening his still attached feathers. so I guess it's normal!!

HAHA!! Yes, this is normal...once it is no longer attached, it is not a feather but a TOY!!
