Exclamation Help...wasn't sure if I could put this in ER

I was bathing Phoebe with a spray bottle today and I had a toy next to her that was made out of colored sisal. The she started walking around and before I knew it the colors from the sisal were all over her face! Near her eyes and every thing! Apparently the colors bled!! I tried to spray her down more to remove the color and only some of it came off. Now it looks like she is breaking out in little red bumps and one of her nares is really pink. Does anyone know if the dye they use to color this stuff is food coloring? Should I worry that she is going to go blind?

Do you think it is possible that you may have just irritated her skin when trying to rub the color off? Maybe the skin is just a little irritated?

Most toy are made with quality dye that is non toxic. I would give her a good shower with clean water and keep an eye on her.

Is she acting okay otherwise? Is she "puffy" or lethargic? As long as she is acting okay, i don't think you have to worry. If there was anything toxic in the coloring, she most likely would have become sick from the toy itself (chewing on it and ingesting the dye).

Bird toys are generally colored with nontoxic vegetable dyes (food coloring, basically). As you have discovered, they are NOT waterproof and the least bit of wetness makes the colors run. They're supposed to be bird-safe, but I suppose it's possible that some birds could be allergic to it. If the skin still looks irritated you might want to talk to a vet about it.

I've assumed that this is a bird toy, since stuff made for humans is usually more colorfast. Toys made for human children obviously have to be nontoxic, although birds are more sensitive in some ways and might be bothered by something that wouldn't affect a human.

Just flush it with water. Don't get all upset. If it is having an allergic reaction, removing the irritant is the only thing you can do. Benadryl would likely help, but I don't think you really need to use it.
