Question Water Dipper

My Calico Macaw insists on dipping pretty much everything into his water bowl before he eats it. Like bread, popcorn, even bacon. Pretty much everything I guess he maybe is trying to make it softer or something? Im not sure. I was wondering if anyone elses birds do this type of thing as well?

Thanks!!

My eclectus makes 'soup de jour' every day with her pellets, veggies, and whatever else she is eating at the moment.

My severe never dipped- until he saw the eclectus doing it- now he is a dunker, too- Tries to soften EVERYTHING...

Arthur does it constantly. I have to change his water numerous times/day....

Petey also does it, as does Edgar. Bob and Gracie, not so much.

Sydney..our tiel..likes to soak her food also. Sometimes she'll just eat it. other times it requires a dunking! Like Irish, we are changing her water many times a day.

Macaws are professional soup makers, anything they can get a beak or talon on can be an ingredient. Give them a small container like a pill bottle and they will also attempt to serve it.

Miro also discovered that if he breaks his wooden toys off and soaks them it makes a WONDERFUL colored water! The veggie dyes leach out of the toy... The first time I went to his cage and saw blue water it startled me a bit- I couldnt figure out what was going on, since he hac removed the toys... All I could see was blue water and BLUE FEET!

Willow does this everyday, too. He dunks his pellets and sometimes even pieces of his wooden toys. A few days ago, he even had to dunk a strawberry!

Sydney too is somewhat of a chef, tho I would never attempt to taste his creation. I cant even tell you how many times I change his water each day!

And every Grey seems to think they can fit their plump little bodies into their water cups. Heh. Bella tried to put herself into the food cups they have at BP to get a bath. :)

Make note: Get a crock for her to bathe in.

Make another note: Get a tarp for the kitchen!
