Well let's start with
1-being a student do you have time to give either? 2-Do you have large Parrot experience? 3-Will they be fully weaned? 4-If not fully weaned do you know how to hand feed?

Bringing a Parrot to a Vets office that might see sick birds on a regular basis might not be a good place for a young parrot. If your a full time student and will also work a full time job it might not be good situation at this point in your life for these choices of Parrot. Again JMO

my job is my college im on pratical work experience as for bringing the birds into the vets it would actually more technically be in the petshop/groomers side of things where the resident parrots are housed. altho i am only in my twentys i do own my own house and am well aware of the responsiblitys a bird of this nature brings with it. i am not diving into this i have been thinking of getting a macaw for a while now and i think i can provide the right loving enviroment for a bird and will be able to provide in the future

it sounds like you have already made up your mind, you said you have been thinking of getting a macaw for awhile. I agree about taking them to work I have always understood that with birds they should not be in the vets office unless really sick or for testing. I paid to much for my birds, and love them way to much to risk their health around birds who are really sick.

I take my birds to work with me and I own a pet store. It is a HUGE risk, and I understand that. I am not making excuses. However, I think they are better off coming to work with me.
If I had to choose between the two I would go with the green wing. I am not a macaw person (I have a blue and gold), but a U2 would not do as well going to work with a person generally than a macaw would. Macaws on the whole seem to be more out going and better able to deal with change in the enviroment. Not to say that all macaws or all u2s are the same or fit into a mold. If it was me, I would choose the GW.
