Budgie stopped eating seed!!!!

Hi, my female budgie, about 1year old always ate her seed untill about 2 weeks ago, she stopped eating, I noticed bright green liquid droppings, I went to vet and got antibiotics for her water, still not eating so offerred her for the first time multigrain bread, which she ate immediately. All along she seemed healthy and happy, she is still very keen for the bread, but refuses seed, I've left her for 12 hrs without bread but still will not touch seed. She has an overgrown cere but beak is normal, could she have a sore beak? I purchased a seed block and hung up on side of cage in case she was worried about her seed container but still no success. Don't know what to try next? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Are you giving her a new brand of seed? What brand are you feeding.? How old is the seed? Try sprouting it to see if it's fresh. It's very possible there's something wrong with the seed and she knows it but you don't.

Not eating seed is not the worst thing in the world, especially if she's chowing down on other foods you're offering. You need to offer more than seed sticks and bread (even if it is multigrain!) Fresh veggies, grains, legumes, pastas, and fruit are vital parts of any bird's diet. Have you tried pellets?

P.S. Offering antibiotics in the water is not a good idea at all. Is that what your vet gave you? (If so, shame on him or her!) The water will spoil very quickly, and your bird may stop drinking altogether. You don't know what dose she is getting if you're relying on her drinking the water.

Hi, thanks for your reply, the first time she refused seed it was a new brand (trill) so I went to pet shop and purchased different budgie seed by the kilo. The seed she used to eat was just Coles brand so I may try that again. So far cannot get her interested in eating fruit or veges but she had a go at seeding grass I got for her today. thanks for the info about the antibiotics,Thanks very much.

Try cooking up some oatmeal (with water and not milk) - make it a bit chunky, let it cool and put some of the seed into that, or fuit.

Just an idea.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Go back to the Coles brand. But supplement her diet with other nutritional food. You've got to! I like the idea of the oatmeal with seed added. Then you can start to add other goodies after she gets used to the oatmeal and seed!
