what does this cry mean?

Merlin has spent most of the day out of his cage today - its the first day since we got him two weeks ago that he has wanted to be out of his cage so much and he is a really happy bird, he is also more friendly and willing to be petted and played with however it seems almost every time i pick him up or touch him he starts to make this weird sound. The best way of descriping the sound is that it sound like the cry of an eagle but much softer, softer then his usual crys. Does anyone know what this sound means?

Thank yooooou, Lisa!

Do you think your cockatiel is shocked/surprised when you pick him up? That he didn't see you coming? Or it could be a noise that he's happy to see you. Does the noise sound stressed?

actually, I got to hear that sound this weekend-I bet. How old is he, and when was he weaned?

It sounds like the 'feed me mom' sound that the cute little babies make.

Its the sound a cockatiel makes when it wants to be fed. You should contact the place you bought the bird becuase it might need to be handfed again.

His about eight weeks old and has been eating fine next time he does it i might offer him some food from my hand and see what he does.

Hmmm we just noticed something else too when he is being held by my partner he chirps normal happy chirps as soon as he is on me of being petter by me he does the little screech.

When we pick him up out of the cage we let him climb on to our finger his a smart bird and has already learnt to step up for us.

Newly weaned birds will still make the begging sounds. How is his weight? Are you certain he's totally weaned?

We had also gotten a GCC at about 8 weeks old, newly weaned birds can revert back to some handfeeding! That is a begging for food cry. The easiest thing is to get some warm oatmeal and spoon feed him. We did this at night time as comfort food.
