Question Tango in America

Has anyone read this book? Found it cruising and am thinking of adding it to my "want" list and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it yet.

Sounds like your typical coming-of-age story for junior high age children, albeit with a bird as the protagonist instead of a peer. I find most of those kinds of stories to be rather depressing, frankly (Ever read "The Giver"? "Old Yeller"?, the "His Dark Materials" series by Philip Pullman? etc.). Maybe this one will be different. If you read it, you should review it here for the rest of us :-).

I do have this book, bought last year during my US trip. I love it, even if it is targetted for kids. Even though a lot of people don't like "anthropomorphism" (sp?), you do get the idea that these little Quakers really suffered when poachers caught them in their homeland and shipped them to the States. I think it is awesome that they have established themselves in various communities and are thriving! I think reading about Tango's adventures could help kids get an appreciation for wild parrots.
