Fireplace

I know it's butt blistering hot for most of us here, but I started to think about all the things last winter I said I would address before it got cold again.

I have an old house. yay me. Baseboard heat and a gas fireplace. When the temp hits below 10 degrees, the best I can warm the place to is 64 degrees. If I run incandescent lights, I can get it to 67 or 68 degrees. Run the dishwasher and dryer and maybe 69 degrees. It's an old and drafty house but I loved that it has a fireplace.

We lost power a few times during the winter, before I got my bird. So I'm wondering if it's ok to run a fireplace with my birds. Again, it's a gas fireplace. The living room is open and adjacent to the dining room which is where my Bela is housed. Is there harm in running the fireplace?

I would think as long as the smoke is going up the chimny and you have a good screen on it. I would get it cleaned out by a pro. before winter.
