Polly's Shower Perch??
Hi everyone! I was wondering if you could help me with a "querie" I have....
I bought (via internet) and had just received the "Polly's Shower Perch". I wanted it for my GC Conure. I think they've accidentally sent me the large one instead of the small one - I couldn't be bothered going through all the buzz of sending it back and forth etc so I thought I'd keep it, hoping that I could also use it for my next future parrot, which I'd probably like to be an IRN. Anyway, I'm discovering that it is maybe a bit too big for my GCC or perhaps, just too slippery. Is there any way I could fix this by putting something over it, like some rubber matting or something?? etc Has anyone had a problem with this or been able to resolve it?? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thankyou all so much for all your help!!!

You could wrap it in vet tape --- although that is a nasty mess wet!
I would ask to return it if its not what you wanted. I just bought a shower perch I thought was made by polly -- but it is cemented end *plz correct me if Im wrong* Ive not used it yet, but while at the store I put some water on it to see if it would bleed or anything. So far as good :) |

Hi Sassie
Yeah I think I might actually retutn it - it says its for macaws and cockatoos and alike - too big for my Pinchy. The Polly's don't have a cemeneted end. Cheers for your advice!!!

if the perch is made out of PVC, you could either score grooves in the PVC or get some no slip tape. I wouldn't use the no slip tape on anything in the cage, but it should be OK for something like a shower perch.
Here is an example, but you should be able to get some at a home depot, atuo parts store, wal-mart, etc. No Skidding Safety Tape |

I don't think it would be nutritious, but then again neither would PVC.
That's why I wouldn't suggest using it in the cage - only for something like a shower perch that gets extra slippery and the bird will only be on it while supervised for a short duration anyway. The no skid tapes typically have very strong adhesives since they're designed to be stepped on and used under less than perfect conditions. Based on the behavior of my birds, I couldn't see it becoming a problem, but of course any bird should always be watched when using the safest of bird safe toys/perches/etc. I once had a few small foot toys that looked like little plastic "cages" with a bell in the middle. However, my conure wanted to chew on the end and would break off little pieces - so they had to go. |
