Unhappy Artemis the Alexandrine is lost, how can I find him?

Hi guys,

I have just realised that Artemis has grown his wings back and today got a fright out the back and took off. I have been searching for him for the last 6-7 hours and it is now night time here in queensland 10.45 to be exact.

When he first flew off I heard a couple squawks from him and then nothing at all after that. Whave nothing but bushland across the road from us so he could be anywhere and he loves lorikeets.

Can you guys give me some hints as to getting him back or trying to maybe coax him back home on his own.

Cheers guys.

I don't have any way to help you but wish I could so much. Don't give up he may be very close by. The only thing I can think of right now is maybe some of his toys or a play stand out in your yard and if possible your sitting outside talking to him might help bring him home if he is close by. GOOD LUCK!

Chris

Hi there guys, thanks for your replies.

I finally spotted artemis about 600 meters down the road across in the bushland, it was only by chance that i was in that spot when a group of lorikeets flew overhead and artemis squawked out to them.

I battled my way through the bushland for an hour to reach him at a distance of 20 meters only to find him up a tree that I could not climb. I stood at the base of the tree contemplating what to do and with him trying to figure out how he could get down to me when suddenly he got a fright and flew deeper into the bush.

At least I know that he is still alive and well. However, he is spending his second night out tonight and we have just had a storm come through and it is pouring with rain. That coupled with the fact that he has had no food or water is starting to wory me.

I have been standing out the front of my home and whistling sounds that I make to him that he knows, is there any chance of him hearing these and trying to make his way back closer to me if he is say maybe a kilometer away?

I have my alarm set for sunrise so that I can get back to the spot I last saw him and start looking for him again. Hopefully things go well this time.

Cheers guys.

good luck. Some birds have made it surprisingly well when being 'free' outside, I remember a grey that was out for a few weeks, not too badly worn after the adventure.

Gday guys,

Another update for you all.

Well I have been out walking the edge of the bushland today and have heard no sign or artemis at all. I can not go any deeper into the bush than about 20 meters as it is to thick and swampy after yesterdays storm and downpour. I walked about 1.5 kilometers of the bushland edge and like i said no sign of arty so he has got be more than 50 meters deep into the bush. After about 50 meters I can no longer hear him.

I have put up my flyers on sign posts, down at the cafe and golf club and down at the local deli and shopping center where people from this area shop at. I have posted a lost notce on the parrot society of australia website forum and placed adds in the 2 local papers to come out on thursday and friday.

I have also placed kiki my sun conure out in the front yard in her cage and have let her squawk her head off today and will do for a couple of days in hopes of coaxing him home.

I just hope that he is alright after the storm, downpour and wind of last night and that he will make his way out of the bush and into somones home where he knows food is. He will not fair well nor be found if he stays in the middle of the bush. However I will continue to walk the bushland a couple of times a day and listen out for him. I can not continue to search all day long however as I have study that I am falling behind on.

However I will continue searching as much as I can and I am afraid that is as much as I can do and must leave it up to the powers that be now as for his safe return.

I just want my ARTY BACK.

Cheers.
