Oh man, what a scare!

Sometime in the middle of the night, for some reason, something woke me up. I was sleeping on my back. I didn't know what woke me up so I just lay there trying to fall back asleep. I guess I moved my leg or something when all of a sudden, I realized what it was. Ducky was sleeping on me under the covers. He was on my neck. I couldn't believe it -- he was fast asleep. I couldn't tell if he had his legs tucked under him or he was standing on my neck but I felt his head nestled on my neck area.

The only thing I can think of is I left the cage door open by accident and he made his way to my bedroom. In the past, I used to let him sleep in my room with me but he always was perched on the headboard so that's how he know where to go. However, he never slept under the covers with me or on the bed -- always perched on the headboard. I quit letting him sleep there simply because the dander or whatever from his feathers was giving me swollen eyes -- I quit letting him sleep on my headboard a couple of years ago.

Oh wow, that was a scary experience. It was scary because of what could have happened.

Ducky is a very sweet severe macaw. It still scares me that he did that without me even knowing it. He was named Ducky by the 1st owners and it's probably because he quacks like a duck.

Cute :) I'm glad he's ok :D Are you sure he hasn't learnt to pick the lock on his cage? They're clever birds, you might have to watch him to make sure!

LOL - Sounds like something Sage would do. I let her and Pepper both sleep with me for several months but started making them sleep in their cages last summer. From time to time I relent and let Sage sleep with me for a few hours but it is rare and never all night long anymore.

When she is in my bed she always climbs up on the pillow next to me and grasps my ear with a "foot" - I still remember waking up a few times when I had shifted a bit and she wound up gently grasping an eyebrow since my ear was out of reach. From everything I can tell, that is her "early warning" feature so she feels me start to move and can get out of the way in case I roll.

Maybe you didn't leave the cage door open. Perhaps you have a hoodine in the house? Our Frankie is a hoodine. He's figured out how to unlatch his Karabiner that we had locking his cage and also unlatch the latch itself. Smart fellas those parrots they are.

I came home from shopping the other day and Zazu was standing on top of his cage. I know I didn't leave his cage open because I left first thing in the morning and had only uncovered him, never opened anything! The guilty look all over his face gave it away too .

We had (not a bird) a squirrel glider possum we were caring for who kept opening his cage and getting out. He even learned hoe to twist the wire we put on it to get out. He ended up in my brothers school bag one morning curled up, lucky my brother checked his bag before he went. Animals are naughty funny creatures.
