Molt questions

Hello everyone!!

I know that birds loose some feathers each years so new one can grow. I think it is called "molt" in english... (well my english is not that good, sorry...) I was wondering how long is it? Because my little Echo has been loosing some feathers since 2 weeks and now it seems to be itching a little 'cause he is scratching a lot. Is this normal that it is itching??

Thanks for your answers!!

It could be due to molting. Also feather dust. Has she had a bath of shower?

Molts can last a couple of weeks or even a month. Bathing helps relieve the itchiness, so frequent baths are good. Bathing every day is not a bad thing, especially if he loves water so much

It usually takes about a month for a molt to end. Provide lots of fresh fruits and veggies and daily showers to make him more comfortable.

I will continue to do as usual then. I always give him fresh fruits and veggies and bath him. I just want to do what's best. It's my first bird and I love him so much. I'm always nervous about everything with Echo...

He's beautiful and I see the picture that looks like his "bath" picture! You can also help with the molt by helping to loosen some of the pin feathers on top of his head -you just rub them gently between your nails. I find it very relaxing and my birds generally love it! You will see a bunch of things that look like the end of a shoe lace - they are the new feathers.
