wood chewing

Pico seems to love to destroy anything wood. Most of his toys have wood on it (from petsmart) but his little habit is gonna get expensive, he already went through his swing. Since he loves to nibble things so much should I keep plastic away? And what types of wood should I avoid? I thought about putting blocks of wood or branches but I'm not sure what to stay away from.

One thing off the subject...... I know now that my dog must whimper when I'm away because Pico just started whimpering! It is so cute, he also meows....What a confused bird

Rocko,

If you have a local hardware store that sells untreated soft pine strips go for that & seek out toys that have untreated leather strips. Those toys are easiet to refill. I now only look for toys that are refillable leather or stainless steel & use soft pine I have cut/drilled to attach. If you go with leather you can knot the ends of the leather strips add your wood piece & keep knotting & adding wood. It works out in the end. If I can use a drill anyone can...

I make a lot of chewables out of closet pole dowels. I cut them into vatious thicknesses and drill a hole thru the middle and hang them on a pierce of cotton or sisal rope. Its real cheap and the fids can tear it up!!!

I get some stuff from wal-mart, I go to the craft dept & get the wood stuff that's untreated/unfinished & he loves it!! They have stars, round disks, etc. They're only a $1 or so for a whole bag of them....

It certainly does get expensive. But I love that whenever we go out, we need to "pick something up for Tiko!" I am making an attempt to but the untreated wood, and make my own toys out of it. I usually use the old holders, and just add the new stuff. I will have to check out the walmart stuff now!!!

We have only had this bird for barely three months, and she has taken over the house!!

It is so true how they will just enter into our lives but in only moments they take over! Whenever I'm in any view of a petshop I have to drop in to see what kind of "Pico treats" I can buy.... my husband is so annoyed!! Now I'm off to wal-mart then to home-depot!!! lol
