Entering dangerous territory!

Went to get some food for the fishies at our usual store today. (Yeah we still have all 4 tanks).
I know we shouldn't be, but neither my wife nor I can seem to help ourselves when we're there... ;
we keep going back into that dangerous territory - the bird dept.

They have some adorable birds. (Unfortunately, I didn't bring my cam with me this time, so yer gonna have to put up with a description only. )

They have:
A couple of 8 week old Hahn's - $1699.99
They're a raucous & rowdy pair of MiniCaws that have been there for 3 weeks or so. A very energetic twosome.

Two new 9 week old BFA's - $1499.99
One is quite friendly & rather bold, steps up to anyone and can even say "hello" already (very impressive!!!).
The other is a little less confident, less eager to step up, and doesn't speak yet.
I'm ususally not into Zons considering my situation, but they were both are very, very nice.

A pair of 7 week old Sennie's - $799.99
New in and both were rather shy.

The you can reserve any of the unweaned birds, but none of them are available for sale till 2 weeks after they've been fully weaned.

I saw a pair of Lutino Ringnecks $599.99.
2 new Bourke's parakeets. $399.99
**edit note- Bourke's repriced to $199.99

There's also a rainbow of Budgies.
Standards $29.99
Hand raised English $39.99

Add to that 2 dozen 'Teils in almost every color. $149.99
Twelve 6-7 week old Lovies in 3-4 different color combos @ $199.99
As well as half a dozen blue mutation Parrotletts that are very sweet inquisitive little bugs. They're $179.99

My wife & I keep going back to look at this trio of 8.5-9 week old White Capped Pionus that they've had there for about 3 weeks to a month now.
They're a little pricey at $699.99
All 3 are absolutely beautiful!
Their head caps are kinda of a peachy color right now, but the rest of the colors are there - that gorgeous green body with green & blue wings and the streaks of orangey-red on the underside of the outer feathers of the tail.
The Pi are very, very nice birds!!
^Deep breath^*Sigh*

I did notice how the Pi & the Zons have a slight scent to them. Not really strong or "bad" per se, but rather easily detectable.
( After owning an unfixed, non-descented male Ferret, Parrot smell is nothing! )

I usually stay OUT of dangerous territory but not this weekend. I was running around and needed some more birdseed and just happened to be near this produce store on the north side of Brisbane. I got the seed, but not without meeting this really cute Superb Parrot who was very friendly! There were also some Cloncurry Parrots-gorgeous! We have waaaaay too many pretty birds around here!

Ahhh, the Pi... they truly are FANTASTIC parrots. THey're so underrated, but if any of you met my Jeze, you'd fall in love I guarantee it!!

And the smell!!! Gosh I love it. You don't smell it as much unless they're nervous or happy....in Jeze's case, it's bliss.

That's really the hard part, Nate.

ALL the birds we've looked at in the last month tug at the heart strings.

There's the trio of young Emeralds (Brown-heads) at TikiBird Aviary

I think there might still be a young Meyer's at the Parrot Farm.

Then there are these 3 WCP's at Big Al's.

The Pi are the most expensive of the birds we've been looking at (by at least $150).
The 3 of them are very sweet though.
2 of them seems to be pretty outgoing. They get out on top of their container pretty easily whenever the lid is left open.
They like tappin beaks with the pair of young Hahn's in the next container, but they seem kinda scared of the Zons on the other side. (The Hahn's are ever so slightly smaller than they are, but whereas the Zon's are quite a bit bigger.)
The third Pi seems to be the smartest one & just stays where it is watching. It knows the "escape" is very temporary and that the other 2 will be recaptured quickly & returned to the container.

Those pair of Sennies are nice too, but the $800(+tx) price tag just pushes them outta our range.

As you all know, that extra couple hundred dollars could go towards a nicer cage....
or more elaborate playstand....
or foods & toys....

Even though they aren't really in the running, those Blue Fronted Amazons were awesome. The Bold one saw something at the other end that it was interested in and sailed off the employee's hand. It flew quite easily across the entire length of the back of the bird/small animal room to land on the half door at the other end.
I was surprised when I noticed after their feeding that the Bold one proceeded to feed his sibling a little more.

Ah so many nice feathered friends.
Another subject for "All the things I would do if I won the Lotto" dreams.

I am blessed to be in an area where there are no bird stores. Makes me have to do some extra planning for supplies (thank you internet) but delivers me from sooo much temptation!

I know what you mean, they are all little gems, but you really can't have them all you know. Listen to your heart, avoid impulse buying, and take cold showers. Oh wait.......the cold showers are for something completely different!

Lately I've been going through a particularly bad case of "Grey Fever". I know I just can't do it though.
Drat. Darn. Blast it all.

That's what I was thinking. At those prices it wouldn't matter if we went in or not.

Remember, that's 699 Canadian, right? Not sure what that is right now, I think the last I heard the exchange rate was around $.85 to the dollar. Still, that'd be over 600, wouldn't it?

My sympathies - did just what you 2 are doing, for over 4 years. It would end up that I had to go & get my fix at least once a month - if I went too often I got so full of want.

The fall bird shows are something to look forward too. Less birds are showing but you can meet breeders there & sometimes there are good cages, toys & deals on feed. This is where I began looking at Canaries & Java Finches or African Starings, as possibilities. Not all fantastic birds are parrots.

It sounds like you are quite taken with the Pionus. I saw a beautiful Blue headed Pionus at the Younge /401 Petsmart. I think they wanted 799.99 (translation 800 ). They also carry some great cages. They also had some beautiful IRN's, & then ...... it never stops.
