How long to fledge.

I have a friend who has adopted tow baby cockatiel. He is having to had feed them as the mother and dad have kiced them out of the nest and the owner could not cope with it. he seems to be doing a good job they are about two months and seem to be getting ready to fly.

His long term plans are to have them clipped but on my advice his is going to let them fledge befoe clipping them. It is my understandting that this is best for long term development. I guess i have two questions. 1. am I correct in telling him they should learn to fly before being clipped. and 2 how long shuld they be alowed to fly before they are clipped.

When I got my Hahns she was six months and clipped so I have no background other than advice from here.
Thanks

They fledge anywhere from 28-32 days old. The first one might take his time. I know that Rima fledged at 28 days because she is the youngest and saw her siblings having so much fun she didn't want to be left behind!

So I guess they are about on schedule. Now how long should we let them fly before we clip them?

Give them at least a couple months unless there is danger of them flying into windows or ceiling fans. It's better for them to develop their wing muscles.

It's actually better not to clip them if you have a secure arrangement for them and they can't get outside.

My CAG was allowed to fledge & fly. I remember the excited call I got to tell me that Echo had taken his first flight and then got his first bath - he had landed in the bowl of formula.

Tiki - I see you have a Princess also! Green = normal? I have a normal, quite the character and talks which was a big surprise I hadn't expected. The Grey taught him. He's the first to greet the sun and last to say goodbye to it. His name is Jewel, a bit girly but I don't know the sex and he's so pretty. I call all my birds "he" for some reason even the 'tiel that lays eggs. Just a habit I guess.

They will not be in a secure area so it will be necessary for them to be clipped. I just want to make sure that I do not clip them too soon.

Oh cool, another Princess mom! Now we have 4 that I know of-Michelle in UK and Tracey in MD. Yes, normal green Princess, but we have so many mutations here like blue, yellow, lime, white.
