New Silicone Baking Accessories

Hello All,

Has anyone out there tried the new Silicone baking pans? Ive tried to find info on them to see if they are bird safe but no real luck. Most non-stick items say they are avian safe under a heated temp of 500 degrees. I wont use any non stick items, but I really need a good bundt pan! Help!

For what it's worth...................
I made a chocolate bundt cake in one and my fids are still here, safe and sound. I didn't think to even question the safety of it since it wasn't teflon.....duh.....

It made a great chocolate chip bundt cake though!

Thanks for the reply Darlie! I think Ill get one. Im hearing that even the regular non stick by Viking is safe to 500 degrees also, but Ive been so scared to use it. I love my birds so much, I actually gave up bundt cakes! Imagine that..haha

Actually a lot of non-stick starts overheating at 280 degrees Fahrenheit, and many birds have died from Teflon (PTFE) poisoning when the pan/skillet/item wasn't overheated at all, but heated to normal temperatures. My point is, with Teflon, you never know if or when the particles will be heated and released from the pan. NO Teflon is safe around your bird, period.

I think she is asking about silicone bakeware- not teflon. Does the silicone bakeware contain teflon?

Not that I'm aware of. It's that new flexible roly poly rubbery looking bakeware that you see everywhere now and can't beleive you can put in the oven. I was sceptical of the silicone pot holders too, but they work!!

Here's an article on the silicone bakeware and it's composition and safety.

Hope this helps.

Ok, clarification. My first question was on the rubbery silicone stuff. The second comment was on teflon. Ive not used any teflon since the fids came. Its not worth the life of my babies to put teflon in the oven. The Viking brand cast aluminum says its non stick but does not state that it contains teflon. So now my second question is, if its non stick but not teflon, what is it and is it safe??
