Need answer ASAP. Toxic cookware fumes?

I know that anything nonstick is off limits, but does anyone know if flexible rubbery bakeware is dangerous? I have to bake something tonight (and I rarely bake so I never updated my cake pans after I got rid of the nonstick stuff). All I do have is one of those silicone floppy pan things. Are they safe or do I need to make a last minute dash to find a store that's still open? Serves me right for volunteering to bake at the last minute.

I don't know. But if you're in the least bit concerned, make that run to the grocery and buy some cookies. Don't use what you have.

I've heard good and bad about it. I have used it, however, and still have my birds.

I have not heard anything bad or adverse in regards to the new silicone cookware on the market. In fact, I know of many bird owners who are now using this new type of cookware without a problem. As far as I know, silicone cookware is birdy safe. Do I get a cookie now?

as long as you remain within the recommended temperature range (below 480F), i wouldn't see a problem. around this temp the material is loosing it's properties and starts to degrade and i'm not sure what comes off. another thing i would do is to bake it out at baking temps once before using it around the birds (side product during the synthesis depending on the precursors could be HCl in very very very small amounts).

just to clarify one thing - teflon coated cookware is also fine as long as it's used WITHIN the recommended temperature range! (however, i don't own any either)

I agree, and on my bird's first wellness check, the vet also said that Teflon coated cookware is okay if the bird is in a separate, well-ventilated room. But I remember reading something that said that it's not safe to heat Teflon past 250F, and another that said 400F, and a few that said 500F.
